Technology guru and TV presenter Jason Bradbury will join the next generation of creative talent from the University of Lincoln as they showcase their work at the UK’s most important exhibition for emerging designers.

Presenting at New Designers in London, 25 final year students from Lincoln’s BA (Hons) Product Design programme will reveal the results of an innovative project with Jason, a Visiting Lecturer on the course.

Over the last year, Jason has been working with the students and Programme Leader Stewart Bibby to imagine, design and produce a range of innovative products which highlight a particular technology and apply it within everyday scenarios.

Among the prototypes to be shown by the Lincoln designers will be a bull nose-ring ‘mood communicator’ – a thermo reactive bull nose ring to help to understand bovine moods when farming; a ‘count the kicks’ baby sensor device to monitor the movements of babies in the womb and send ‘kick’ notifications to parents; and a glamping skylight which enables campers to sleep under the stars or see a view of their choosing on an intelligent screen.

A new ‘urban tweeting’ system, which would live stream images and video footage of nearby bird nests to screens in urban areas such as underground stations, transport hubs and city centre museums, will also be on show.

The two-part New Designers exhibition, which showcases emerging talent to industry representatives and public audiences, takes place at the Business Design Centre in London in June and July 2016. The University of Lincoln will attend Part 2 of the show from 6th-9th July, with Jason Bradbury joining them for the final day on Saturday 9th July.

Jason said: “I can’t wait to show the design world the results of all the hard work that our students have been doing at the University of Lincoln. I have been extremely impressed by their creativity and enthusiasm for the project, and the prototypes which we will take to New Designers really do represent a fascinating insight into the future of design talent in the UK.”

Product Design students from the University of Lincoln have exhibited project work at New Designers regularly over recent years. The event provides an opportunity for creative students and new graduates to meet potential employers and for the public to see the exciting work produced on university campuses across the UK.

During the show, New Designers Awards are presented to the most innovative graduates in partnership with leading brands and organisations – these awards recognise the design world’s rising stars, offering winners and runners-up vital support as they embark on professional careers.

Stewart Bibby, Programme Leader for Product Design at the University of Lincoln, said: “This continues to be a very exciting and progressive project; having Jason contribute so much makes such an impact and has really energised the group. For a project which began with such an open brief, the group has really engaged with it and the continuous technology advice provided by Jason has been a massive driver for them. We are all looking forward to showcasing the students’ prototypes at the New Designers event, which always provides an excellent opportunity for students to launch themselves into the creative enterprises.”
