Almost 100 dedicated members of staff who have each worked at the University of Lincoln for more than 20 years have had their loyalty recognised with long service awards.

In total 91 members of academic and professional services staff received awards, representing more than 1,800 years’ worth of experience.

The University, which celebrated the 20th anniversary of the opening of its Brayford Pool Campus last year, introduced the Service Recognition Award scheme this year, presenting awards to all current staff who had reached the 20 year milestone.

“It was such a surprise to receive the award”, said Ruth Butler, who manages the University shop on the Brayford Pool Campus. “I really love working here and I’m proud of the fact that I’ve been here since the very beginning.

“I see students and staff on a daily basis and there’s a real sense of community spirit which is what I enjoy the most. Most people don’t realise how long I’ve worked here so it’s really lovely to get that recognition!”

Ian Hodson, Head of Reward at the University of Lincoln, added: “Long serving staff are the backbone of the University and have a crucial understanding and knowledge of how the institution works.

“We are very proud of the loyal workforce we have here in Lincoln and it was important to us to have an initiative in place to recognise that loyalty. It’s been wonderful to acknowledge these members of staff who have been with us for so long and we look forward to awarding more long service awards in the coming years.”
