Sixth formers from schools and colleges across the UK will be able to get a taste of university life this summer in a series of free Challenge Days led by academic teams at the University of Lincoln.
Held on the University’s Brayford Pool Campus throughout July 2017, each Challenge Day will offer prospective students the chance to take part in a range of interactive activities offering insight and hands-on experience of subjects they may be interested in studying at degree level.
Activities span disciplines from across the University, from History, Life Sciences and Psychology to Product Design, Business Studies and Health and Social Care.
Aimed at teenagers currently studying at sixth form, each session will focus on developing a specific skill relevant to higher level study of their chosen subject.
Those attending the Health and Social Care Challenge Day will explore the skill of active listening, commonly used by health and care professionals in training, counselling and conflict resolution, while those interested in Law will be able to take part in a series of mock legal negotiations concerning the islands of the Maldives.
Emma Jubbs, Head of Undergraduate Recruitment at the University of Lincoln, said: “These Challenge Days are a great opportunity to experience university life and to explore a subject in more detail. Studying at university is different to school or college, and taking part in these activities enables students to learn more about what they could be doing if they choose to pursue their chosen subject further at degree level.
“I hope the challenges highlight the opportunities that higher education can offer and help young people to really consider what they want to do next.”
Schools across the UK are invited to put forward small teams of students for each of the Challenge Days that interest them. There is no limit on the number of challenges or teams a school can put forward.
