Release your inner Jedi and Meet YouTubers Goodboy Guides and The CaffCast

Embark on a Star Wars themed epic adventure in a free-to-attend showcase of future technologies at the University of Lincoln.

A one-day festival, Future 2.0, takes place on Wednesday 8th November 2017 at the University of Lincoln’s Engine Shed with hundreds of local school pupils from across the region expected to participate.

YouTubers including Goodboy Guides and The CaffCast will be attending and sharing their gaming expertise with visitors.

Elly Sample, Director of Communications, Development and Marketing at the University of Lincoln, said: “We are delighted to be welcoming Goodboy Guides and The CaffCast to the campus who will be sharing the secrets of their YouTube success with our visitors in a series of presentations and demonstrations throughout the day. They will also be taking part in a panel with fellow YouTubers Will Bangura and SirCutieYuki.”

The University of Lincoln is renowned as the ‘YouTube university’. Its graduates include Tom Ska, Daniel J Layton, Jack Howard and Dean Dobbs.

It is ranked 20th in the UK for student experience and is one of the most popular universities in the country which it puts down to its focus on its award winning student experience.

This event will give visitors the opportunity to take a giant leap into the world of the popular Star Wars franchise ahead of the cinema release of the latest film in the series. It will allow them to experience some of the innovative technologies that have defined the 40 years since the first film’s release.

Visitors will be able to release their inner Jedi by trying their hand at stage combat in the Movie Zone. They can star in their own Star Wars scene using CGI technology, or race Stormtroopers through the galaxy in an interactive racing game featuring mounted bicycles in the Gaming Zone.

Budding engineers can build their own robot in the Robot Maker Zone. There is a chance to compete to be named Robot Wars Champion with a purpose built Robot Wars arena providing the backdrop for rounds of robot battle.

The event is open to all and visitors will come face to face with some of Star Wars’ best known robot characters and discover how technology has and will continue to shape our future. They will see 3D printing technology in action and can create their own 3D printed figure to take home their own piece of a ‘galaxy far far away’.

The Space Zone will shed light on the mysteries of the universe with educational talks on a variety of topics, from moon landings to star signs in a spectacular 360 degree pop-up Space Dome. Visitors will be transported to another galaxy in the Interactive Zone thanks to the latest virtual reality technology.

“Future 2.0 is a great opportunity for people to see first-hand some of these leading technologies that staff and students at Lincoln are currently working with. From 3D printing to virtual reality, they offer a fascinating insight into the technology that we could be using 20 years from now.”

Future 2.0 takes place on Wednesday 8th November 2017 at the Engine Shed on the University of Lincoln’s Brayford Pool Campus. The event runs from 10am – 3pm. It is free to attend and school parties are welcome.
