Science in the pub is something usually reserved for the pub quiz, but an event in Lincoln this May is set to change that, giving the public the opportunity to learn in their local.
The Pint of Science festival is an annual festival that takes place from the 20th to the 22nd May with events happening simultaneously in multiple cities across the globe. The festival is aimed at those who may be interested in science but do not have a background in the field and allows scientific researchers the chance to share their latest findings with the general public in a relaxed, fun environment.
Organised by a team at the University of Lincoln, this is the first time that the festival will be hosted in the city. The event has already piqued the interest of local science fans thanks to a taster event at the University in January which saw Louth born former NASA astronaut Michael Foale CBE return to the county to share insights into his career in space.
Attendees will have the chance to hear about a range of topics from across the scientific spectrum including psychology, robotics, space and planet earth with talks delivered by academics from across the University.
The events will take place at the same time in three venues across the city– The Pessimist Wine and Gin Bar on Mint Lane, The Lion and Snake in the Bailgate and Café Portico on The Terrace. Each night will involve talks from two speakers as well as question and answer sessions, interactive activities and giveaways.
Dr Kay Ritchie, Senior Lecturer in the School of Psychology and one of the Pint of Science local team at the University of Lincoln said: “We’re excited to bring Pint of Science to Lincoln for the first time. It’s a great opportunity to involve the people of Lincoln in some of the ground breaking research that is going on at the University that they may not be aware of.
“Each Pint of Science evening will feature at least two different speakers from the University, and all of the events will be interactive and fun.”
