Thousands of students will celebrate their graduation alongside notable names in business, sport and advertising this week as they collect their degree awards at the spectacular Lincoln Cathedral.

Over four days between Monday 9th and Thursday 12th September, the University of Lincoln will welcome an estimated 12,000 guests to the city’s historic Cathedral Quarter as the Class of 2019 take to the stage before celebrating with their family, friends and well-wishers in the grounds of Lincoln Castle.

A host of Honorands will also join the celebrations alongside Lincoln’s graduands to receive honorary degrees from the University. These include Lincolnshire born businessman, philanthropist and founder of The Carphone Warehouse, David Ross, who will receive the award of Doctor of the University.

Lincoln born Paralympian Sophie Wells who won gold medals at both the London 2021 and Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, will also be presented with an Honorary Degree. British advertising mogul Sir John Hegarty, the creative force behind some of the most iconic advertising campaigns of recent decades will join students from the University’s College of Arts to receive the award Doctor of the Arts.

Among those undergraduate and postgraduate students receiving their degrees is student Luna Jarvis, who, having suffered a series of strokes during her second year of University, has overcome remarkable odds. Having used her experiences to become an ambassador for stroke awareness, Norfolk born Luna will graduate with a First Class Honours degree in Media Production.

University of Lincoln Vice Chancellor, Professor Mary Stuart, said: “Our graduation ceremonies are always the stand-out occasion in the academic calendar. For every student who crosses the stage and leaves our city’s beautiful cathedral as a graduate of our University, it marks the culmination of years of dedication. We are so proud of each of our graduating students and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to celebrate their achievements and hard-work with them and all those who have supported them along the way.”
