Broadcaster and naturalist Chris Packham and TV presenter and Radio DJ Clara Amfo will be special guest speakers at the University of Lincoln’s next Virtual Open Days. Prospective students will get exclusive access to livestreamed talks which will reveal Chris and Clara’s career insights and inspiration, from the moments that fuelled their ambitions, to the pearls of wisdom they wish they had known when starting out in their journeys.

Chris Packham is one of the most recognisable British broadcasters, perhaps best known for hosting the BBC’s Springwatch and Autumnwatch series. An enthusiastic advocate of wildlife conservation and environmental issues, he also dedicates his time to a variety of charities and good causes. Chris will be in conversation with zoologist Megan McCubbin, his stepdaughter who has joined him in co-presenting the latest Springwatch series to critical and popular acclaim, at the University of Lincoln’s Virtual Open Day on Friday 10th July 2020.

Clara Amfo will be in conversation with the University of Lincoln’s Chancellor Lord Victor Adebowale on Saturday 11th July 2020. Clara is a radio and television presenter best known for her BBC Radio 1 show and its famous ‘Live Lounge’ spot.

One of the most influential voices in UK healthcare, Lord Victor Adebowale is a cross bench member of the House of Lords and tireless campaigner on health inequalities and social injustices. In 2001, he was awarded a CBE in the New Year Honours List for services to the New Deal, the unemployed, and homeless young people. He became the new Chair of the NHS Confederation in April this year after almost 20 years leading the national social care organisation Turning Point.

Alongside these exclusive special guest talks, the University of Lincoln’s Virtual Open Day will feature more than 30 livestreamed talks from academic teams and expert staff from across the University, including accommodation, admissions, careers and student support teams.

Elly Sample, Director of Communications and Development at the University of Lincoln said: “We’re incredibly excited to welcome Clara and Chris to speak at our open days, providing insight into their respective careers and giving advice to young people starting to consider their own.

“Although coronavirus might be putting a stop to many important parts of our lives, we’re proud that our open days are still providing the same wonderful experience online. With help from Clara and Chris, we’re now delivering exclusive opportunities that would never have been possible to deliver in a traditional open day setting.”

The online event also features live chat, including opportunities to connect with current Lincoln students and teaching staff, introductions to the city, and 360-degree virtual tours of the University’s spectacular Brayford Pool Campus.
