A new project will promote public health information about COVID-19 to students and young people in Lincolnshire, helped by funding from the Lincolnshire Community Foundation.

Tailored content will be researched, pitched and created by students at the University of Lincoln, in partnership with staff and Lincoln Students’ Union, to help reach and inform young people of public health messages via digital platforms and social media. It is being led jointly by the Digital Student Life team at the University of Lincoln and New Media Lincs, a social enterprise run in partnership with the Lincoln School of Film and Media.

The project team will share information and guidance around the COVID-19 pandemic created by and targeted to young people in Lincolnshire, through social media and other digital channels. Research will also be carried out into student attitudes to COVID-19 and the rules and guidelines that they are expected to follow. Findings and insights from this will feed into the project, influencing the nature and themes of the content being produced.

Tom Wright, Director of Digital Student Life, said: “We’re very pleased to have won funding from the Lincolnshire Community Foundation for this important work designed to support and encourage students across Lincolnshire to follow COVID-19 rules and guidance and reduce the risk of the virus spreading more widely.

“Students will be at the heart of this project, contributing ideas, creating content and carrying out research in partnership with academics, professional service staff and representatives from the Students’ Union. We’re hoping that the project will really make a difference, keeping students and the Lincoln community safe throughout the coming months.”

The project has been funded by Lincolnshire Community Foundation; a trusted partner of the National Emergencies Trust, having distributed over £700k to support Coronavirus response in Lincolnshire.
