From the science behind vaccine development to the secret lives of our pets, schoolchildren can get inspired by a series of interactive lectures to celebrate British Science Week.
Starting on Monday 8 March, the University of Lincoln, UK, is offering a week-long schedule of inspiring and interactive lectures spanning subjects such as computer science, robotics, medicine, psychology, engineering, food production, astrophysics, mathematics and geography.
Delivered by expert academics and scientists, sessions will be available to watch on YouTube and include ‘Evolution of the Dinosaurs’, ‘Fantastic Worlds and Where to Find Them’, ‘How is Your Food Made?’ and ‘A Career in Space Engineering’.
Professor Libby John, Pro Vice Chancellor and Head of the University’s College of Science, said: “We are delighted to showcase some of the amazing work we do here at the University of Lincoln as part of British Science Week 2021.
“Here at Lincoln, our students have the opportunity to learn from, and work alongside, expert staff whose work has a tangible impact on society. Our academics are working at the forefront of their disciplines, ranging from innovative research to develop new uses for robots in farming to ground-breaking studies in climate change and meteorology.”
There has been a significant expansion in science at the University in recent years. The Lincoln Medical School has brought a welcome boost to the healthcare community in Lincolnshire and nationally, while the newly established Lincoln International Institute for Rural Health conducts world-class research that focuses on the greatest health issues facing rural communities around the world.
The University is also home to the Lincoln Institute for Agri-food Technology, Europe’s largest academic research centre on agri-robotics, where leading experts are developing innovative technology to support and enhance productivity, efficiency, and sustainability in food and farming.
Offering an exciting range of industry-relevant degree programmes, the University’s College of Science has built partnerships with global companies including Nestlé, Siemens and the NHS, and these lectures will offer a great introduction to what it is like to study science at Lincoln.
