In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, top universities have strengthened their commitment to support the mental health of students and staff by signing up to the Student Minds University Mental Health Charter.

The University of Lincoln has signed up to the charter, which provides a set of evidence-informed principles to support universities across the UK in making mental health a priority, and brings together 32 top universities committed to working towards these principles to share practice and create cultural change.

Head of Student Services, Jacqueline Mayer, said: “At the University of Lincoln, our students are at the heart of everything we do so we are very proud to sign up to the Student Minds University Mental Health Charter.

“We have a whole range of support services available to help students make the most of their university experience, including our dedicated Student Wellbeing Centre which offers access to trained wellbeing advisors, mental health advisors and counsellors.”

The University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Mary Stuart, said: “At Lincoln, we have a strategic approach to mental health support which is deeply embedded across the institution at all levels. We will learn and grow and develop so that our ‘One Community’ approach to the mental health and wellbeing of all can be further enhanced and supported through our engagement with the University Mental Health Charter Programme.”

As part of an ongoing commitment to supporting student mental health, the University is also working with TV star and the UK’s Youth Mental Health Ambassador, Dr Alex George, on an upcoming virtual event.

During an online talk on Thursday 5th August, Dr Alex George will be offering advice on what to consider when preparing to take that next step to University, from how to make friends to staying positive and making the most of the University experience.

Dr Alex George, said: “I’d love to see as many young people as possible and hear about what would help them moving forward. It’s vital that students and young people have a voice as we work together to transition back to a more normal way of living and learning.”
