One Step Greener: Artists Invited to Contribute in Climate Week Art Exhibition

The UN Climate Change Conference, COP26, is coming to the UK in November and artists are being invited to mark the occasion.

The University of Lincoln, UK, is running an art exhibition as part of Climate Week from the 1 November. The exhibition will take place over 12 days on the University’s Brayford Pool Campus.

A curated exhibition of local established environmental artists will be displayed in Project Space +, a dedicated art gallery in the Peter de Wint Building. Alongside this, Lincolnshire residents are invited to get involved with the exhibition via an open submission portal.

Artwork of any medium can be submitted, whether created specifically for the exhibition or exhibited elsewhere previously. Submissions can focus on anything from climate action to biodiversity in Lincoln.

Artists can have their artwork exhibited digitally on a screen outside the Project Space+ in the Peter de Wint Building on the Brayford Pool Campus and ten pieces of artwork will be chosen for exhibition in large print format in the central glass corridor of the arts buildings.

Various interactive sessions will take place throughout the week, including a panel discussion with artists about science and impacts.

During the exhibition, members of the public will be encouraged to vote for their favourite piece of artwork. The winning artist will receive a prize of £100 in shopping vouchers.

Professor Libby John, Head of the College of Science and Chair of the Environment and Sustainability Committee at the University of Lincoln, said: “We want to invite artists to help to communicate the importance of tacking climate change and sustainability through their work.

“The Climate Week art exhibition is a fantastic opportunity for students and the wider community to get involved and spread awareness about this very important message.”

COP26 will bring parties together to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
