TV star and National Youth Mental Health Ambassador, Dr Alex George, is coming to Lincoln to help support young people with their mental health.
The University of Lincoln, UK, will welcome Dr Alex, an A&E doctor who shot to fame on the TV show Love Island, onto campus on Wednesday 17 November to speak about mental health and how young people can feel supported on a range of issues.
Following the impact on mental health during the global pandemic, the University of Lincoln has strengthened its commitment to support the mental health of students and staff as one of the first universities in the UK to sign up to the Student Minds University Mental Health Charter.
Dr Alex has appeared on multiple episodes of the Lincoln Live Lounge series, where he discussed the support available for young people as they plan their futures, he will now join the University to give insightful talks and Q&As to young people, schools, and students.
The National Youth Mental Health Ambassador will chat to young people from schools and colleges across the region about a number of matters, such as transitional periods, coping strategies for exams and emotional regulation.
Students at the University will also have the opportunity to meet with Dr Alex where conversations will be encouraged on a range of issues around mental health, there will also be tips on maintaining a healthy mindset. The University of Lincoln Student Wellbeing Centre will also be present on the day to offer additional support.
A passionate campaigner on mental health issues, he was appointed by the Prime Minister as the UK’s new Youth Mental Health Ambassador to advise government and raise awareness of mental health and wellbeing in schools, colleges and universities.
Dr Alex George said, “Making sure that young people have access to mental health support is vital.
“I’ve been delighted to work with the University of Lincoln and it’s great to see they have a wealth of support and resources accessible to students to ensure that they’re able to make the most of their time at Lincoln and to know they’re not alone.”
