The National Youth Mental Health Ambassador, Dr Alex George, is returning for a special Lincoln Live Lounge event as part of Mental Health Awareness Week.

The University of Lincoln, UK, is hosting Dr Alex, an A&E doctor who shot to fame on the TV show Love Island, for a virtual discussion on Wednesday 11 May. Dr Alex will be joined by University of Lincoln Mental Health Advisor, Alex Varlow to discuss mental wellbeing and ways of dealing with various issues.

After appearing on multiple Lincoln Live Lounge series, as well as on campus, Dr Alex will be giving top tips on making the transition to university-level study and coping with moving away from home.

There is also an opportunity for students and those considering going to University to ask questions and learn more about the wellbeing support available at the University of Lincoln.

Following the pandemic’s impact on mental health, the University of Lincoln has strengthened its commitment to support the mental health of students and staff as one of the first universities in the UK to sign up to the Student Minds University Mental Health Charter.

Dr Alex George said, “I am delighted to be back working with University of Lincoln on another important event during Mental Health Awareness Week.

“I will be joining the University virtually, to chat with the Student Wellbeing team about mental wellbeing and how to deal with loneliness. These events really help to highlight the accessible support and resources available for students, so they can make the most of their time at Lincoln.”

Julie Spencer, Head of Student Wellbeing at University of Lincoln, said: “The University of Lincoln’s Student Wellbeing Centre are super excited to have one of our mental health advisors, Alex Varlow, speaking with Dr Alex George for Mental Health Awareness Week.

“In addition to this, Student Wellbeing will be hosting a series of events from Monday to Friday to support student’s positive mental wellbeing and promote the One Community values.

“As the theme of Mental Health Awareness Week is tackling feelings of loneliness, all sessions will be group based to offer an opportunity to spend time with others and make new friends.”

Dr Alex George will be joining the Lincoln Live Lounge for a virtual event on Wednesday 11 May from 4pm. For more information, please visit Events | What’s On? | University of Lincoln.
