Transported’s Aerial Dance Team are celebrating after an incredible few weeks, which have seen six performers place at the Regional Championships, with a chance of competing at the National Finals.
Supported by the University of Lincoln, UK, since 2018, Transported is part of the Centre for Culture and Creativity which demonstrates the University’s commitment to, and investment in the civic and cultural life of the county, and the national and international conversation on creativity.
The programme is community-focused which aims to get more people in Boston Borough and South Holland enjoying the arts and participating in arts activities since its creation in 2013.
The Transported Aerial Team gained their successes at the Lincolnshire Regional 1 and 2 events across a variety of categories from youth through to new professional performer, competing in different disciplines; including aerial hoop, silks, cube and hammock.
Nick Jones, Programme Director of Transported said:
“We are very proud of the Aerial Team for all that they do for their learners, but especially proud when they are achieve so much in a national setting.
“Aerial dance has proven to be really important during lock down, helping people remain both physically healthy and mentally resilient, and we are looking forward to taking the opportunity to new people and new communities over the coming years.”
These wins follow on from the programme’s success in 2020 where the team won national titles at the finals in both the Amateur Silks and Instructor Hoop categories.
In Aerial Dance, the performer is suspended from a height and performs using equipment such as hoops and silks. The style requires great core muscle strength and flexibility.
The results of recent championships are:
Lincolnshire Regional 1 event
Instructor Silks – Jessica Weller (2nd Place). Junior Open – Imogen Turncroft (2nd Place).
Amateur Open – Hannah Gilbert (1st Place). Amateur Lyra (hoop) – Charly Ingleby (1st Place). New Professional Performer Lyra – Lauren Williams (1st Place).
Lincolnshire Regional 2 Event
Instructor Silks – Tara Lannan (1st Place)
Placing at the Regional events does not automatically guarantee a place at the National Championships. Finalists at the National Championships will be announced week commencing Monday 30 May
