The University of Lincoln’s Defence and Security Research Network (DSRN) was launched by Professor Andrew Hunter (Deputy Vice Chancellor, Research and Innovation) and Maj Gen (Retd) Julian Free CBE (Deputy Vice Chancellor, Regional Engagement) on 4 October. Bringing together almost 100 members from all four of the University’s Colleges (Arts, Lincoln International Business School, Science and Social Science), the network possesses broad and deep expertise in a range of issues relevant to defence and security.

The DSRN is part of the University of Lincoln’s commitment to working in the areas of security and space, which form a core pillar of the institution’s Industrial Research Strategy. The network will support both internal collaborations across the University and engagement with industry. The network has been established at an opportune time given the recent inauguration of the Greater Lincolnshire Defence and Security Network (GLDSN) by the Greater Lincolnshire LEP.

Maj. Gen (Retd) Julian Free CBE said: “The launch of the University of Lincoln’s Defence & Security Research Network alongside the LEP’s Greater Lincolnshire Defence & Security Network will enhance the University’s ability to support this regionally important sector.  It will drive both innovation and knowledge exchange attracting greater levels of inward investment and creating high skill, high value opportunities for those working and living in Lincolnshire.”

Professor Andrew Hunter said: “It was inspiring to see such a level of interest in defence and security research. The University is already very active in this space, but there is huge potential and we will be investing significantly to grow activity over the next few years”.
