UK New Artists (UKNA) are bringing celebration of the arts and upcoming artistic talents to Lincoln this month.
Working in partnership with the University of Lincoln, UK and other local organisations, UKNA will deliver Taking Place, a year-long programme of activities to champion Lincoln as a home for art and artists.
UKNA, which was cofounded by the University of Lincoln, Arts Council England, Nottingham Trent University and the University of Derby, will deliver Taking Place through two inter-connected programmes.
Creative Citizens and New Artist Collective are designed to showcase Lincoln’s strengths and inspire the local community to access and engage with high quality art, while also highlighting the city’s potential as a place where creative talents from across the nation can connect and work.
Through collaboration with local partners and education establishments, the Creative Citizens programme will work with young people aged 14-19 across Lincolnshire to support more young people to explore their creativity. The programme will see a range of activities take place including workshops, venue visits, mentoring and creative sessions.
The New Artist Collective will bring together a cross-disciplinary group of 18 artists from across the country, including University of Lincoln graduates Georgia Preece, Tyler Barker, and Oliver Ventress.
The group, who will work both collaboratively and individually, will have opportunities to showcase their work as they undertake commissions and collective activities throughout the year. They will also benefit from access to a range of support including networking, training, and mentoring.
Professor Andrew Westerside, Head of Lincoln School of Creative Arts said: “The School of Creative Arts and the College of Arts at University of Lincoln are delighted to be able to support UKNA’s mission, and we’re looking forward to seeing this year’s Taking Place happening in our city.
“UKNA provides a vital platform and vehicle for the UK’s emerging artists, and we’re hugely excited to experience and take part in the rich body of work that will unfold over the year.”
Michelle Bowen, Director of UK New Artists said: ”UK New Artists is excited to launch Taking Place, our new programme in the wonderful city of Lincoln on November 18th. We feel that this is the right place to bring over 18 artists from across the UK to explore and work alongside the city to create exciting opportunities and great art that can be enjoyed by all.”
Taking Place gets underway on Friday 18, November with a collection of works showcased by the New Artist Collective which will celebrate the diversity and skill within the group.
Audiences are invited to visit a free exhibition which will run from Friday 18 to Saturday 19 November from 12pm-5pm in the Fine Art Studios at the University of Lincoln’s Peter De Wint Building.
