Lincoln Professor Awarded Prestigious Fellowship

Professor Mo Ray has been recognised for her leading research in social gerontology and social work with a Fellowship of the Academy of Social Sciences.

Mo, Professor of Health and Social Care at the University of Lincoln, UK, is one of 56 leading social scientists to have recently been conferred the Fellowship by the Academy.

Fellows are elected by their peers in recognition of their excellence in their chosen fields and wider contributions to the social sciences for public benefit. Mo joins a community of around 1,500 distinguished professionals in the social sciences to have been recognised in this way.

As a Fellow, Mo will now join her peers in working with the Academy in their mission to  further champion the social sciences and deepen public understanding of their vital role in shaping the contemporary human world.

Reflecting on the achievement, Professor Mo Ray said: “I am delighted to be conferred with a Fellowship of the Academy of Social Sciences. The intersection of social gerontology, social work and social care have been consistent aspects of my research, scholarship and learning and teaching.

“The British Society of Gerontology and my colleagues at ‘Gero8’ have provided a disciplinary and intellectual ‘home’ and a place where I have been privileged to get to know, and work with, talented gerontological researchers, policy makers and practitioners at every stage of their career.

“Seven years ago the University’s College of Social Science gave me the opportunity to step away from a long career in social work education and to focus much more on my research. It’s been a great seven years! 

“I remain connected to social work education via my fantastic colleagues in the School of Health and Social Care and to promoting the importance and value of developing social care research with my colleagues in the Healthy Ageing Research Group, community partners and via the NIHR/CRN East Midlands.”

Professor Duncan French, Pro Vice Chancellor and Head of College of Social Science at the University added: “I am absolutely delighted to be able to announce that Professor Mo Ray has been recognised for the excellence of her research and contribution to her discipline with the conferment of a fellowship from the Academy of Social Sciences.
