MA Fine Art Lincoln invites you to experience a new exhibition curated from an open call to artists from Two Queens, Leicester.

Exhibition open dates are from Monday 20 March – Tuesday 28 March 2023, 10am – 4pm and the closing event with curators and artists is on Tuesday 28 March 2023, 5pm – 8pm.

Artists from MA Fine Art at the University of Lincoln have selected 10 artworks out of 70 outstanding submissions by practitioners working in East Midlands and nationally, as part of the Artist as Curator module.

Dr Assunta Ruocco, Artist as Curator module leader said: “This is the first time that the MA Fine Art have curated an exhibition in collaboration with an artist run organisation and it’s an exciting opportunity to learn about how artists sustain their practices beyond their studies.”

Blending themes of techno-gothic, dark fantasy and the ‘new weird’ with memory, identity, and idealism, the exhibition features visual art, sculpture, video installation and photography. Visitant Queens welcomes interpretations and perceptions of the uncanny, the unusual and the ethereal, through a contemporary lens.

The exhibition’s curation experiments with connecting the hi-tech with the symbolic and neo-medieval.

Visitors will encounter a multi-layered screen installation, an unconventional approach to tapestry, delicate garments in an apparent state of ‘ruin’ and paintings illustrating fragility and identity as well as mythological characters and ancestral stories. Visitant Queens manifests a vibrant spectrum of colour; neon lights, metallics, monochromes and the fluorescent. In the midst of it all, sits a silver disco man.

Exhibiting artists include: Anne-Marie Atkinson, Jonny Bennett, Daniel Cowlam, Jacqui Gallon, Samuel Harriman, Shivani Khoshia, Dinosaur Kilby, Marian Lovelock, Diana Ramute, Ruby Waage-Townsend.

Join the curators from MA Fine Art and the exhibiting artists on 28 March 2023 from 5pm – 8pm in Project Space Plus at the University of Lincoln for the closing event of the collaborative exhibition.
