Members of the public will be able to learn about new sector-leading sustainability initiatives and sustainable farming during this year’s Lincolnshire Show.
In celebration of the organisation’s commitment to the region and farming community it supports, the University of Lincoln, UK, will welcome guests to its marquee during the two-day event, taking place on Wednesday 21 and Thursday 22 June.
Showgoers will be able to hear from academics in the University’s Lincoln Institute for Agri-food Technology, who will be on hand to share details of live projects that aim to engender sustainable farming practices, from its range of autonomous robots to tackle labour shortages, to increasing wild pollinators on farmland, and carbon sequestration.
Rebecca Mills, Head of Sustainability at the University of Lincoln, said: “The University of Lincoln is embedding sustainability as a core value that runs throughout all our activities, including the management of our Riseholme Estate, and our farming practices.
“We’re working towards our target to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2040, which include land-based emissions and those relating to agriculture on our estate. We’d love to welcome visitors of the Lincolnshire Show to come and learn more about the University’s actions in support of a transition to a low carbon future.”
The University’s herd of Lincoln Red cattle from its Riseholme Farm estate will also be entered into this year’s livestock ring, having been groomed and prepared for show by University of Lincoln students studying in the Department of Life Sciences.
To intrigue and entertain, the University will be partnering with BBC Radio Lincolnshire on Wednesday morning to showcase the cattle as they’ve never been showcased before, in a ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ style feature, ‘MooPaul’. Members of the public will be able to phone in with their creative and comedic name suggestions for each cattle in the showcase.
Academics conducting research in some of the most pressing topics of our time will also be present to offer a range of activities for visitors to engage with such as psychological facial perception tests, electron microscope workshops and demonstrations of sensor robots.
The University of Lincoln’s marquee will be held opposite the Main Ring at the Lincolnshire Showground, and all are welcome.
