The Rt. Hon Professor Lord Ajay Kakkar KBE has today been installed as the new Chancellor of the University of Lincoln, UK, in a ceremony at Lincoln Cathedral.
Lord Ajay Kakkar is a distinguished surgeon, scientist and crossbench member of the House of Lords, and is succeeding Lord Victor Adebowale CBE, who last year announced his intention to step down from the role after almost 15 years of service to the University. The installation of the new Chancellor took place at the University’s graduation ceremonies at Lincoln Cathedral.
Speaking at his official instalment as Chancellor of the University, Lord Kakkar said: “I consider it one of the greatest honours and privileges of my entire life to have been invited to come and serve the marvellous community of the University – it’s fine students, staff and broader community of Lincoln and Lincolnshire – and to take some responsibility in ensuring that this great university and very fine institution continues on its determined mission, defined by a clear vision and a perfect set of values, to achieve more and more for those in its community and beyond.”
Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Neal Juster, said: “The installation of our new Chancellor is a moment of huge significance for our institution. It is a unique celebration of the University’s past, present and future.
“Lord Kakkar brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in diverse fields spanning health, science, justice, business and innovation, and of course, a distinguished career of public service. The Senior Leadership Team and I, and indeed all our community, look forward to working together with him in supporting the University to embrace opportunities ahead and achieve future successes.”
The Chancellor serves as the ceremonial figurehead of the University. They perform an important ambassadorial role, working with the Vice-Chancellor and the Pro-Chancellors to represent the University in the external community. They support the important work of the University and are a vital advocate for our mission, vision and values. They also preside over our Graduation ceremonies.
