The University of Lincoln, UK, is set to deliver a new broadcast provision which will reflect nationwide developments in traditional radio broadcasting which have shaped audience behaviours and participation.

These advancements are owing to the increasing popularity of digital audio technology including smart speakers, pre-recorded media, and streaming platforms.

Evolving with and acknowledging this change, the University is launching a consultation: ‘The Sound of the Future’. This period of visioning will identify and develop a suitable business model for an audio-based output, in which members of the University community will be invited to contribute their ideas.

The consultation will be facilitated by Dr Finn Pollard, Head of Academic Quality and Standards and the Centre for Culture and Creativity at the University. The Sound of The Future will gather ideas and insights from our student body and staff colleagues about how our community could engage in a future audio output. This will be done through a series of workshops and one-to-one conversations taking place across March and April with those who expressed an interest, in addition to an online survey open to all.

Objectives for a new platform will ensure that the University continues to deliver up-to-date learning opportunities for our students, to support their future careers in the digital media landscape. The platform will also prioritise quality and community, resulting in a curated experience for listeners.

Staff, students and alumni are invited to submit their ideas online until 1 May 2024: https://forms.office.com/e/hk1L93sACB.
