A new partnership between the University of Lincoln and England Golf will see eight budding journalists working at England Golf’s championship events in 2024.

The University and the governing body for golf in England have teamed up to provide opportunitiesfor BA and MA Journalism and Sports Journalism students to gain vital experience at events around the country.

England Golf will host over 70 championships in the 2024 season, and the students will be tasked with attending events to write reports, interview players and staff, as well as producing video content for social media.

Erica Stephenson, Lecturer in Journalism at University of Lincoln, said: “It’s a fantastic opportunity for our students to get real-world experience with an esteemed governing body. All eight of them are thoroughly looking forward to the chance to get out and cover golf with the skills they’ve learnt on their degree.

“We believe that the collaboration will benefit both the University and England Golf, and that students in the coming years will be able to benefit from this invaluable experience.”

The eight students were given an induction on Wednesday at the National Golf Centre at Woodhall Spa, ahead of the new England Golf championship season which kicks off with England v France at Moortown Golf Club on Saturday 11 May.

Ben White, England Golf Communications & Data Director, said: “We’re thrilled to develop this relationship. Through working with our Press & Media Manager, the students will learn vital skills such as report writing, content creation, working to deadlines and interviewing techniques, in what can be a very fast-paced environment during our championship events.

“While it will be a fantastic foot in the door to the industry for the students, it will also allow England Golf to provide more coverage to the amateur game’s competitors and our golf clubs, and help us further promote our key message in that golf is a truly welcoming and inclusive game which is accessible to all.

“We can’t wait to see what fresh ideas these young minds can bring to the table and to witness their development over the course of the year in creating content.”
