University of Lincoln Manifesto 2024

The University of Lincoln has published its first ever manifesto calling on Greater Lincolnshire’s Parliamentary candidates to support higher education and recognise the role universities play in transforming the lives of young people and driving growth in UK industry.

The document sets out the contribution universities like ours can bring to delivering the skills and innovations needed in local communities across the country. It paints a positive picture of how higher education can expand opportunities, enrich society and boost prosperity by opening up the life-changing benefits of degree level study, as well as providing the high-level skills needed in industry and the NHS.

It also outlines key policy issues which have culminated in the unprecedented financial crisis now facing UK higher education. The University frames seven specific policy suggestions:

• Recognise a university’s purpose is linked to place.
• Restore maintenance support for poorer students.
• Reverse real-terms cuts to undergraduate teaching
• Recommit to welcoming international students.
• Address the £5bn “gap” in research funding.
• Support the full range of higher skills routes.
• Create parity on pensions for post-92 universities.
