The University of Lincoln has ranked among the UK’s top 30 UK universities for the academic, mental health and wellbeing support it provides for students in the new National Student Survey (NSS).

Results of the NSS 2024 were published today (10 July) and show that Lincoln outperformed sector benchmarks in all seven core question categories.

Lincoln ranked in the UK top 30 out of 131 higher education providers in three key areas of the NSS: Academic Support (ranked 27); Mental Health and Wellbeing (ranked 29); and Student Voice (ranked 29). The University achieved above the sector average score in five of seven of the major NSS question categories with its overall score improving in each one compared to 2023.

At subject level, there are a number of highlights for the University of Lincoln where we are among the highest rated in the country for the relative subject area. This includes Molecular biology, biophysics and biochemistry (Biochemistry); Zoology; Chemistry; Tourism, transport and travel; and Music.

Professor Abigail Moriarty, Pro Vice Chancellor (Education and Students) at the University of Lincoln, said: “In my first three months as Pro Vice Chancellor at Lincoln, I have witnessed firsthand the passion and commitment of our colleagues in supporting student learning, teaching, and the broader student experience. These stellar 2024 NSS results are a testament to this dedication and also reflect the exceptional talents of our students.”

The NSS is the largest UK wide annual survey aimed at final year undergraduates. Each year nearly half a million students across the UK complete the NSS, which has been conducted annually since 2005.

The survey provides eligible students with the opportunity to provide honest feedback on their student experience. It is managed by the Office for Students (OfS) and undertaken by Ipsos on behalf of the UK funding and regulatory bodies.

The NSS asks questions on a range of thematic areas including teaching on my course, learning opportunities, assessment and feedback, academic support, organisation and management, learning resources, student voice, students’ union, mental health and wellbeing, and freedom of expression.

Just under 2,300 of Lincoln’s final year undergraduates took part in the survey this year, approximately 78% of those eligible.

The University of Lincoln’s latest success in NSS 2024 follows a series of accolades and awards this academic year including being awarded Gold in the national Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) and winning the prestigious Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Further and Higher Education.
