Triple Treat for University at This Year’s Green Gown Finals

The move towards Sustainability and Net Zero at the University of Lincoln, UK, gained even more momentum last week as the Finalists for this year’s Green Gown Awards was announced.
Now in its 20th year, the UK and Ireland Green Gown Awards are an international awards institution celebrating the environmental achievements and progress made within the world of further and higher education.
The University of Lincoln submitted three applications to the awards and has been shortlisted in all three categories. These are:
- Climate Action 2030 – for our work on creating the Net Zero Roadmap
- Creating Impact – for our work developing and delivering the Climate Action Festival – A festival for the future
- Research with Impact Institution – for our research on sustainable alternatives for producing steel – Green Steel for Change.
Prof. Neal Juster, Vice Chancellor of the University of Lincoln said:
“Being shortlisted as a Green Gown Awards finalist in three categories is welcome recognition of our vision to embed sustainability as a core value running across all the activities of the University of Lincoln. Our research is delivering significant environmental and social benefits, including carbon capture and storage, biodiversity gain, flood mitigation and food security.
“We believe that, in addition to reducing our own carbon footprint and being a Nature Positive University, we can make a very significant impact by working with our local community and leading the local transition to a Net Zero future.”
The Net Zero Roadmap is an in-depth plan of how the University is going to reduce and achieve Zero Net Carbon by 60% by 2030 Carbon by 2040. It was developed after the University declared a Climate Emergency in 2019 and is a fully phased and costed plan for achieving Net Zero.
The Climate Action Festival is a series of partnership climate events that have been taking place across Lincoln over the past three years. It engages with other key organisations in the city, as well as with the local community. In 2023, the Festival delivered 27 different events including exhibitions, workshops and the launch of the official campaign for a Nature Positive Lincoln.
