Going Places! – Student Leah Wins Tourism Excellence Award

University of Lincoln student Tuan Mai Khoi Phan (Leah) is celebrating after winning first place in the Going Places category at the Tourism Excellence Awards organised by Destination Lincolnshire.
The awards ceremony, which took place on 28 February at the Lincolnshire Showground, celebrates the very best of tourism in the region, and is accredited by Visit England.
After winning the award, Leah, who is studying MSc International Tourism Management, said: “I am incredibly grateful to have won the Going Places Award at the Tourism Excellence Awards 2025! Being recognised alongside such inspiring professionals is truly an honor.
“A special thank you to Georgiana Els, my lecturer, professor, advisor and inspiration. Your support, guidance, and mentorship have been truly invaluable, and I am deeply appreciated for your encouragement every step of the way. Without you, I would not have made this far.
“Another huge thank you to everyone who has supported me on this journey and provided me an opportunity to be a part of such an incredible community!”
Speaking on Leah’s award win, judges commented: “An incredibly tough category to judge, with each nominee demonstrating incredible passion and drive to make their mark on the industry.
“Judges felt our winner deserved the award based on their engagement with peers, professionalism, hunger for wanting to better every visitor’s experience and their work within the community.”
Dr Georgiana Els, Programme Leader for MSc International Tourism Management, writes, “I have received Leah’s nomination to the Tourism Excellence Awards 2025 with extreme pleasure as it is a testament of her hard work and dedication during her studies and placement year.
“Being able to join Leah at the awards was a pleasure and a recognition of her achievement and the programme overall.
