On 12 April, the University of Lincoln will host the Writers’ Conference – a day dedicated to the writing industry.

Organised by Writing East Midlands, the region’s leading literary development agency, the biannual conference promises an inspiring and insightful day packed full of opportunities for writers at all stages of their careers.

Following the success of its 2023 edition, this year’s Conference is set to be bigger and better than ever, thanks to a collaboration with Troubador Publishing, The Book Guild, and the University of Lincoln. The event is a must-attend for writers across the East Midlands and beyond, providing a unique opportunity to gain valuable industry insights, connect with professionals, and develop their craft.

Attendees will have access to a diverse program of panels and workshops covering essential topics such as scriptwriting, self-publishing, the value of studying Creative Writing, and much more. The Conference will also feature engaging discussions led by writers and leading figures in editing and publishing, all offering exclusive guidance on navigating the literary world.

One of the highlights of the day will be a keynote speech by Rebecca Mascull, the historical fiction writer behind Visitors, Song of the Sea Maid, and the 2024 release Hot (Not Bothered).

A spokesperson for Writing East Midlands said: “The Writers’ Conference is our biggest writer networking day of the year, and we couldn’t be more excited to be holding it at the University of Lincoln with Rebecca Mascull, University of Lincoln Fellow of the Royal Literary Fund, as our Keynote Speaker. Days like these, where we can gather hundreds of writers, publishers and industry experts together, are filled with so much energy and really help to connect you with your community. It’s sure to be a day packed with passion, inspiration and the power of the written word. We just can’t wait!”

To add to the creative atmosphere, the Conference will also feature an after-hours open mic event, hosted in partnership with University of Lincoln students. This will provide a platform for attendees to share their work, network, and celebrate the day.

Dr Amy Lilwall, Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at the University, said: “The Writer’s Conference 2025 will provide an opportunity for agents, editors, readers and fellow writers to gather and celebrate the writing from our region. Through sharing insights and forging connections, we hope to inspire one another towards new opportunities and growth in the literary world.”

The Writers’ Conference 2025 will take place at the University of Lincoln’s Brayford Campus, running from 9am to 5pm, with the open mic event commencing at 7:30pm.

Tickets are available at £65, with £60 concessions as well as bursaries to ensure accessibility for all. Full details and booking information can be found on the Writing East Midlands website.
