Could You Be the Next Great Author? London Event to Help Aspiring Creatives Take First Steps Towards Writing Career

It is often said that everyone has a book in them and a free event in London in September will offer aspiring authors the opportunity to explore that possibility with information and guidance on an innovative new Master’s being offered by the University of Lincoln in partnership with The Guardian.

The MA Creative Writing and Publishing Information Event will take place in King’s Cross on Monday 3rd September from 4pm-7pm, bringing together leading academics from the University of Lincoln, industry insiders from the news organisation, and programme lecturer, art historian Andrew Graham Dixon.

The new year-long course, which launches in October 2018, will combine academia and creativity with unique industry insights, enhanced by workshops, readings and masterclasses by acclaimed authors, including Andrew Graham Dixon, Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy and naturalist Chris Packham.

Andrew Graham Dixon said of his involvement: “I’m pleased to be able to share my experiences as an author with those looking to pursue a career in writing. This event provides a wonderful opportunity to find out more about this unique course and how it prepares aspiring writers for a career in what is a highly competitive industry”.

Professionals from major publishers will contribute to the teaching and support, alongside Guardian editors and writers such as Associate Editor for Culture Claire Armitstead, freelance writer Stuart Heritage, and interviewer Decca Aitkenhead.

The event will allow potential students to gain insight into the unique course, which has been designed to balance creative skills coaching with industry focused skills such as pitching to prepare students for entering the competitive world of contemporary publishing.
