The University of Lincoln has been named a Gold Award winner in the Ministry of Defence’s Employer Recognition Scheme.
It is the first time a university has been given the accolade.
The award was presented to the University by HRH Prince Edward and Gavin Williamson, Secretary of State for Defence, at a ceremony in Lancaster House, London.
It recognises private and public sector employers that pledge, demonstrate and advocate support for the Defence and Armed Forces community and meet the objectives of the Armed Forces Covenant.
Deputy Vice Chancellor Julian Free, who attended the event, said: “We are one of only three East Midlands organisations to win this prestigious award, joining 49 others across the country to be presented with this accolade in 2018.
“As a university based in Lincolnshire, surrounded by RAF stations, providing education to the Armed Forces and employing ex-military personnel, it is tremendous news that our commitment has been recognised in this way by the MoD. The Gold Award has not been achieved by a university before, but this year Lincoln and two others have been recognised – another Lincoln first.”
The award shows the University is committed to supporting employees who are veterans or reservists, their partners and family, and endeavours to be an advocate for Defence People.
