Awarding-Winning International Films to be Showcased at Lincoln Arts Centre

Indie-Lincs International Film Festival are presenting a regular series of film screenings that bring highly regarded international independent films to the big screen at Lincoln Arts Centre.

Kickstarting the series is ‘Rodeo’, winner of ‘Prix Un Certain Regard’ at Cannes Film Festival 2022. The film follows Julia, a young misfit who is passionate about dirt bike riding, meets a crew of fellow riders who fly along at full speed and perform stunts. She sets about infiltrating their male-dominated world, but an accident jeopardises her ability to fit in.

Indie-Wire dubbed the film: “A heart-pounding, wholly unique ride. One-part Titane, one-part Fast & Furious and one-part Girlhood.”

The screening at the LAC Theatre will feature a director Q&A with Lola Quivoron to offer students and film enthusiasts alike an invaluable opportunity find out about the independent film-making process, her creative inspirations and anything else that may interest them regarding her work.

Mikey Murray, Senior Lecturer in Film Production at the University of Lincoln, UK, is coordinating the Indie-Lincs project and commented: “Indie-Lincs International Film Festival is an open, friendly and communal event that brings filmmakers from the international independent film-making community to Lincoln each year.

“We’re pleased to announce that the festival now also offers a regular series of events throughout the year that are open and inclusive for everyone. This initiative is part of the British Film Institute’s strategy to give accessibility to more diverse cinematic voices throughout the UK with subsidised, low-cost film screenings.”

Lola Quivoron’s gritty debut feature has a cast of mostly non-professional actors recruited from the urban rodeo circuit, adding a layer of authenticity to the film’s thoroughly researched world. This is true of the main character, Julia, played by Julie Ledru, who Lola stumbled across via Instagram and learned that her life had many parallels with the character she had written.

The film is in French but will be accompanied by English subtitles and has a certificate 15. Showing on Friday 30 June at 7pm at the LAC Theatre, the film including the director Q&A will have a total runtime of 140 minutes.

The Indie-Lincs series of screenings are funded by BFI’s Film Audience Network fund via Film Hub Midlands, Indie-Lincs International Film Festival, Lincoln School of Film, Media & Journalism and Lincoln Arts Centre.
