The ongoing commitment towards the wellbeing and mental health of students and staff at the University of Lincoln, UK, has been recognised by national mental health charity Student Minds.

An announcement from Student Minds has confirmed that the University has achieved the University Mental Health Charter (UMHC) Award for 2024.

The UMHC Award is an accreditation scheme which celebrates good practice and has been given to the University of Lincoln in recognition of its commitment to continuous improvement in all areas of mental health and wellbeing.

The Award Panel at Student Minds noted several areas of good practice at the University, mentioning specifically the professionalism of its support services and the approach to students’ transition into university.

The University’s hard work and dedication to the Mental Health Charter demonstrates a significant commitment to the promotion of mental health and wellbeing within it’s One Community.

Julie Spencer MBE, Head of Student Wellbeing at the University of Lincoln said:

“The University is always fully committed to the mental health of our community. We foster a supportive culture and promote greater understanding of mental health issues.

“This award re-affirms our commitment to continuous improvement for our students and the staff who support them.

“We intend to build upon our good work so every member of our community feels supported and understood.

“We recognise this is a journey which we are all a part of, and ongoing improvement is necessary to embed a whole institution approach to mental health and ensure a supportive and inclusive community.”

The University Mental Health Charter Award is a voluntary accreditation scheme that supports universities to understand their areas of strength and development to inform ongoing improvement in mental health and wellbeing, recognising good practice along the way.

The role of Student Minds is to assess how well the university is currently working towards the principles of good practice in the Charter Framework and whether its progress to date, honest awareness and future plans merit accreditation.
